Making learning easier

Compared to mindless phone activities, the simple act of learning has a lot of friction.

When I experience a desire to learn something, I have to go through all of these steps:

1) First I have to think about what it is that I want to learn at that moment of time

2) Next, I have to look into what resource I think would be best suited to learn this particular thing. As an efficiency nerd, this can take ages!!! I often want to ensure I am using the best resources available, and there is a lot of research involved in that. "best way to learn woodworking reddit" and a million other similar searches...

3) Then, I finally start the learning.

I'd love to just know exactly what things I want to learn, map them out ahead of time, and have all the learning materials ready, so I can just fly. That way, I never have the aforementioned overhead... I can just jump straight to where I need to be, and capitalize on my desire to learn in the moment.

I'm sure this would also increase the chance of learning becoming a mindless habit, similar to doomscrolling and what not... simply because it is just more accessible.

It just becomes a matter of tending to the garden, and yes spending time learning, but also spending time making sure I'm prepared for learning.

It feels like the structure I am describing is similar to enrolling in a course; when you are in a course, whether in school or some online course, the learning objectives are defined already, and the materials to learn them are already accounted for. You can just jump in and follow the learning path linearly. It's worthwhile for me to search for online courses that would provide what I'm searching for, but for many-a-thing I am sure I'll want to develop my own "syllabus" and cultivate my own plans for learning.
